On March
30, the exhibition "Pareiasaurs of Vyatka" was solemnly opened. For
the first time, the Darwin Museum exhibits unique paleo-finds from Kotelnich –
one of the world's largest locations of pareiasaurs that lived 260 million
years ago, long before the dinosaurs. More than 20 species of extinct animals
were found here, and 16 of them are new species previously unknown to science.
The jewel of this museum is the local species of pareiasaurs – deltavyatiya
(Deltavjatia rossica). They are presented at the exhibition, or rather their
complete original skeletons and sculptural reconstructions.
The
director of the State Darwin Museum Anna Klyukina addressed numerous guests.
She thanked the Paleontological Museum of Vyatka for the unique exhibits as
well as drew the attention of visitors to the highly professional and painstaking
work of the preparators.
The
director of the Paleontological Museum of Vyatka Aleksey Toropov expressed his
gratitude for the help in organizing the exhibition and mentioned that their
museum had brought the best Deltavia paleontacles to the Darwin Museum (which
he considers to be an exemplary natural science museum). He expressed hope for
further long-term cooperation.
The
researcher Vladimir Masyutin spoke about the peculiarities of field work and
the preparation of finds.
The opening
was attended by friends and colleagues from the Paleontological Museum, the
Memorial Cabinet-Museum of N.I. Vavilov and other museums.
The
exhibition "Pareiasaurs of Vyatka" is open until May 15 on the second
floor of the main building of the museum.
