New arrival - Pavlovskaya golden rooster

The museum's collection has been replenished with a new exhibit. It is a stuffed rare breed of chickens - Pavlovskaya golden.

The most unusual ornamental chickens include Pavlovian chickens, since these birds are more like pheasants than chickens. These chickens gained worldwide fame back in the 19th century, and at the same time they became a real standard for all decorative chickens bred in Russia.

Unfortunately, it is not known exactly what breeds were used to breed them. Much historical information was lost after the revolution, when this breed of chickens almost disappeared. Only the joint work of the researchers and the breeders lead to the fact that in the 80s of the XX century the breed began to revive again. Now scientists suggest that the selection used the Cochins from Persia and native breeds of chickens from Russia.

The head of this breed is decorated with an unusual crest compressed from all sides. Some individuals have the crest is more spreading, which is also accepted as a standard. The beak is straight and very thin; it is painted in light yellow, almost white color. The comb is underdeveloped. On the head there are unique tanks in the form of protruding feathers on the cheeks and under the eyes. The tanks gradually descend under the chicken's beak, creating a "beard". Something similar to the scruff is formed on the sides of the neck. Representatives of this breed are characterized by unique plumage on their legs. Feathers are present on the outer and inner side of the metatarsus, which makes the plumage look like stockings.

The rooster, which got into our collection, was kept in the All-Russian Research Institute of Genetics and Breeding of Farm Animals. The stuffed bird was made by taxidermist Oksana Mbita Ebele.
