New arrival - stuffed black-necked aracari

(Pteroglossus aracari Linnaeus, 1758)

The museum's ornithological collection has been replenished with two stuffed tropical birds from the toucan family – the black-necked aracari (Pteroglossus aracari Linnaeus, 1758). These inhabitants of South America, common in the rainforests of Brazil, French Guiana, Guyana, Suriname and Venezuela, came to us from the Tula Regional Exotarium. The stuffed birds were created by our talented taxidermist Oksana Mbita Ebele.

The plumage of these birds is predominantly dark. Below the chest the color is yellowish with a wide red transverse stripe. The upper part of the beak is yellowish and white, the lower part is black. Males have a slightly longer beak than females. Regardless of gender, these birds reach sizes from 35 to 45 cm and weigh from 177 to 309 g. The sounds made by aracari resemble an ax hitting a tree.
