The grand opening of the photo exhibition "Archipelagos of the Arctic"

On February 24 the exhibition «Archipelagos of the Arctic» was opened. This is a partnership project of the Darwin Museum and the publishing house «Paulsen». About 40 photos introduce the viewers amazing landscapes and rare animals of hard-to-reach territories of the Russian Arctic – the archipelagos of Land of Franz Joseph and Novaya Zemlya, Wrangel Island, Ushakov Island, Novosibirsk Islands. The authors who brought these pictures from Arctic expeditions are the director Leonid Kruglov, the photographer Sergey Gorshkov and the oceanologist Mikhail Flint.

The director of the publishing house «Paulsen» Raisa Niaeglova-Kolosova addressed a speech to many guests. She presented the albums «Arctic archipelagos. Highlatitude panorama» by Leonid Kruglov and «Novaya Zemlya. From Abrasymov Bay to Rose Glacier» by Mikhail Flint.

In his turn, Mikhail told the audience about different «personalities» of the southern and northern islands of the Novaya Zemlya archipelago, about the smell of wet stone and the silence of the Arctic bays. He noted that a good picture of this landscape can be made only when you live there. Eleven seasons of expeditions to Novaya Zemlya gave him this opportunity.

Leonid Kruglov shared his plans for the future – the preparation to expeditions to the Arctic islands and work on a new documentary film.

The evening ended with an autograph session and demonstration of the video clip by Leonid Kruglov named #НОВАЯЗЕМЛЯ_DOC and the documentary about the 63rd scientific cruise of research vessel «Mstislav Keldysh» under the guidance of M.V. Flint – «Spaces of high latitude».

The exhibition «Archipelagos of the Arctic» will be opened until April 17 in the gallery on -1 floor of the Exhibition Complex.
